Balance Catamarans
Balance Catamarans

Piotr’s adventures with sailing began in his teens in his native country of Poland. His passion for sailing has never abated. A successful Venture Capital Investor with deep experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Piotr now lives with his wife,Ula, in Switzerland.

Piotr and Ula have owned a Majestic 24 and, most recently, a Catana 582. Piotr has crossed the Atlantic twice and once piloted his Catana 58 single-handed for over 800 nautical miles. He has participated in several major sailing regattas, including the Gragilia Rolex Cup, Les Voiles de Saint Tropez, ARC from Gran Canaria to St. Lucia, as well as the Heineken St. Martin Regatta where he finished third. When asked why he decided to order a Balance 526, he had this to say:

“I was looking for something a bit smaller, lighter, and even faster to sail than my Catana 58, and I wished to specify carefully the exact outfit of my next catamaran based on my knowledge from owning the Catana. Balance Catamarans, being a smaller, high-end, boutique shipyard were prepared to work carefully with me to build the catamaran of my dreams. I can tell you that working with Roger and Jonathan Paarman has been a great delight. These are men who truly care to do things right and work to please the customer whenever they can….

“I was fortunate enough to know Phil Berman and his professionalism from the sail of my Catana 58. But even more fortunate that Phil introduced me to another previous Catana owner, Mark Thornburrow, who graciously allowed me to crew for him on his sea trial of Bliss (Balance 526 hull #2) from Cape St. Francis to Cape Town. On such a trip you learn what a fast and able catamaran the 526 is. The trip also gave me a chance to get to sail with her builder, Jonathan Paarman. When you can average 263 nautical miles a day and regularly sail into the high teens, it is both very exciting and makes sailing a sheer pleasure. The 526 is truly a wind-speed boat, even in very light airs. I am confident I will be able to pilot my 526 single-handed when required, but that she will be perfect for me to sail with Ula to just about any place we wish to go. And, when it is cold, or raining, or the sun is too harsh, the Versahelm offers significant advantages over my Catana 58. You have to sail it to believe it!”
