Born with a need for speed and a passion to be on the water, Dave and Lisa knew they wanted to cruise extensively in their retirement. The couple had been power boaters for the majority of their lives, until Lisa developed the idea to liquidate their small business in the IT industry, quit their jobs, and go cruising. The convenient size of catamarans led them first to own to a Norseman 430 and then a Leopard 46 before buckling down with a Balance 526.
The two have experience cruising from the East Coast of the United States to the West Indies, as well as in the Bahamas, though they are planning on going wherever the wind takes them on their 526.
As with many Balance customers, the Dave and Lisa have a need for speed, but also desired a comfortable living space and wanted the payload capacity to carry extra equipment and a good sized tender. By some fortunate luck, Dave came across an article praising the Balance 526’s hull speeds under wind and power and was quick to inquire.
The couple excitedly arrived at the Annapolis Boat Show and were able to sail on Ondine, our very first 526. The wind that day was very light and expectations were low because no other catamarans were able to sail in the light winds. After leaving the dock, “Ondine impressed us with its performance in 7 knots of wind by doing wind-speed.” Both Dave and Lisa took turns at the helm and were able to tack in the light wind with minimal effort. At that point they were sold and the rest is history. They will be sailing her for South Africa to the Caribbean in April of 2018 and then wherever they want to head next.
