About the Session
After years of ocean miles on monohulls, we took on something new: a 6,000nm delivery from Cape Town to Antigua aboard Pressure Drop, a Balance 526 catamaran.
This webinar is our firsthand account of that transition. We’ll take you inside the reality of the switch: how it felt to sail from Cape Town to Antigua, how our approach to sailing changed, how performance actually translates to ocean crossings, the differences in daily life onboard, and the lessons we learned along the way.
What You’ll Learn
- Why the transition from monohull to multihull is more than just speed, and how it changes the way you plan and execute passages.
- The unexpected benefits (and challenges) of living on a performance cat: space, stability, and how that reshapes routines onboard.
- Where multihulls truly excel, where monohulls still hold their edge, and how to evaluate what’s right for your sailing style.
- Lessons earned the hard way, from major rebuilds to equipment failures offshore, and how those experiences sharpened our view of the “right” adventure boat.

Elliot and Anais
We’re Elliot and Anais, The Salty Cruisers. Five years ago we left corporate jobs in Singapore for a “two-year” sailing sabbatical. Since then we’ve crossed oceans, rebuilt boats after lightning strikes and failures, and sailed more miles than we ever expected. Most recently, we delivered Pressure Drop across the Atlantic. Today, with Outer Passage, we run adventurous, experiential trips that combine sailing with kiteboarding, wing foiling, and spearfishing – alongside our salty sidekick, North the dog.
