With the launch of Balance 482 Polpo, we mark the close of an important and defining chapter in the Balance Catamarans story.
The Balance 482 was never intended to simply be a “smaller” Balance. She was born from listening — from owners and sailors who loved the performance DNA of the 526, but who were looking for something a little more approachable in size and sail area, without giving up the thrill, efficiency, comfort and confidence that define the Balance experience.
That feedback sparked a pivotal moment for us.
The 482 became our first true diversification as a brand — the first time Balance offered more than one core model. It signaled not only where we were going, but how we intended to get there: by expanding access to performance-oriented cruising while staying true to our design philosophy.
A Proven Platform, Sailing the World
Today, 31 Balance 482s are sailing across the globe.
They’ve crossed the Atlantic multiple times.
They’re cruising the Caribbean, North America, and the Mediterranean.
Some have ventured as far north as Norway.
Many are now deep into the South Pacific, well on their way toward circumnavigations.
The 482 has proven herself to be exactly what she set out to be:
a confident, capable, performance-driven cruising catamaran that offers both exhilaration under sail and a comfortable, livable home on the water.
For many owners, she unlocked the dream — proving that a slightly smaller platform can still deliver big-boat capability, safety, and speed, while remaining manageable for couples and short-handed crews.
To every one of our 482 owners: thank you. Your trust, your voyages, and your feedback have shaped not only this model, but what came next.
Passing the Baton to the Next Generation
As the final 482 leaves the dock, the next chapter is already well underway.
The Balance 502 — the direct evolution informed by everything we learned from the 482 and beyond — has officially entered full production. More than eight hulls are already on the production floor, and Tiger Lily is in the water, making her way toward the Caribbean as this is published.
The 502 carries the same Balance DNA forward, refined and expanded: incorporating lessons from owners, advancements in construction, and design innovations that will shape the fleet for years to come.
And this transition doesn’t stop there.
In early 2026, the final two Balance 442s will enter the water, closing another chapter — and opening the door for the Balance 464, which will follow as their production-line successor, bringing many of the updates and innovations first seen on the 502 into the mid-40-foot range.
Looking Ahead to an Exciting Year
The year ahead is shaping up to be one of the most active and exciting yet for Balance Catamarans:
- More Balance 580s launching and sailing worldwide
- New media and long-anticipated updates on the Balance 750
- The Balance 540 coming to life and launching later in the year
- A full calendar of boat shows, beginning with Düsseldorf, followed by Miami, France, and Annapolis, including the public debut of the 502
At the same time, as our fleet approaches nearly 100 boats sailing globally, our focus continues to expand beyond launches alone. We’re investing heavily in after-sales support, owner resources, and community development — because a strong fleet deserves a strong network behind it.
That includes another Balance Rally next year, where we expect to see more Balance catamarans sailing together than ever before.

The launch of Polpo is both a celebration and a handover — honoring everything the Balance 482 has achieved, while looking forward with confidence and excitement to what’s next.
